Boil Out / Boil In – Chemical preparation of boilers
What is a Boil Out?
A Boil Out is a chemical treatment performed prior to the startup of a new or refurbished boiler. Its main objectives are to:
■ Remove grease, manufacturing oils, and oxide residues from internal surfaces
■ Increase pH and alkalinity levels to help prevent scale formation and carbon deposits
■ Passivate the steel by creating a protective film that minimizes the risk of corrosion
If the boiler has been operating without proper water treatment, a chemical cleaning (pickling) process should be carried out beforehand to remove oxide deposits and ensure effective passivation.
What is a Boil In?
A Boil In is an alternative to the traditional Boil Out process that does not require draining the boiler.
■ Specially formulated treatment chemicals are dosed while the boiler remains in operation
■ More frequent and extended blowdowns are performed according to carefully established schedules
■ The objective is to gradually replace and condition the boiler water until the treatment process is fully completed

Descaling Service
Boilers that operate without proper water treatment control are prone to scaling. Scale deposits reduce thermal efficiency, increase fuel consumption, and raise stack temperatures due to high-flame operation, thereby compromising the integrity of the boiler.
Prior to commencing our chemical treatment program for your boiler, CALYTRA performs a waterside inspection to assess the internal condition of the equipment and determine whether a corrective chemical cleaning service is required.
What does the service consist of?
Chemical cleaning is carried out with the boiler out of operation, through the controlled application of descaling agents that remove mineral deposits adhered to heat transfer surfaces. When necessary, we ensure the efficient mechanical removal of scale without causing damage to the equipment.
